Ethical Manufacturing

Our ethical manufacturing processes are multi-faceted, encompassing the responsible use of both natural wood and fiber products, large scale recycling of discarded plastic products as well as the use of recycled and recyclable paper packaging. We are committed to engaging in sustainable, environmentally friendly manufacturing processes that strive to maintain the delicate ecological balances of nature. We strictly avoid the use of hazardous substances, as well as exploitative labour practices, even among our suppliers. We aim to minimize waste of energy and raw materials. Our commitment to ethical manufacturing even extends to the use of sustainable buildings at our production facilities.

Our story of ethical manufacturing begins by our teams visiting rubber plantations and hand picking good quality rubber trees for our wood requirements. For every tree we uproot, a new tree is planted – this ensures that we give back to nature what we take from her.

Our environmentally appropriate forest management practices ensure that the harvest of timber and non-timber products maintains the forest's biodiversity, productivity and ecological processes. We work with environmentally friendly wood products such as rubber wood, birch and beach.

Our plants use wood with Forest Management System - chain of custody certification.

Our plastic back requirements are largely met through recycled Poly Propylene flakes. We use post-consumer (recycled) plastics at our foam injection plastic block manufacturing facility. This process ensures that post-consumer plastics are put to new uses in foam or co-injected brush blocks.

Our synthetic filament requirements are met through PET bottles obtained from municipal garbage dump yards. These bottles are then washed at our state-of-the-art washing plants and the fiber is extruded using modern European technology.

We also use natural fibers such as Coco fiber from the Coconut palm, Palmyra (Bassine) fiber, Tampico and Arenga fiber, which are all eco-friendly and biodegradable.

A majority of packaging used for our products are made with recycled paper. All packaging is designed to be totally recyclable.

We adhere to the regulations of “REACH” (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) in sourcing our raw materials. Every effort is made to avoid the use of hazardous substances throughout the production process.

Our production facilities are certified to the ISO 14001:2004 standard. ISO 14001 ensures that the factory operations limit environmental impacts through significantly reduced energy and raw material consumption, as well as lower production of waste materials. Certification requires an organization to identify the environmental impact of its operations, document controls that are in place, and take a systematic approach to continuously improving its environmental performance.

Our Ethical Sourcing standards extend to our suppliers; the use of child labour and forced labour are strictly prohibited, and adherence to minimum wage requirements and basic health and safety standards are expected. We perform on-site audits, with ethical sourcing criteria being strictly monitored and regularly reviewed.

Our policy is to build all our new production facilities in line with the USGBC (U.S Green Building Council) "green building" guidelines. The USGBC policy encourages the use of natural lighting, rainwater harvesting and efficient energy use. Both our synthetic fiber extrusion facilities (and our brand new washing line) have been built to meet the stringent standards set the by USGBC guidelines for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification. Our first plant is fully compliant and LEED certified, while the second is in the process of being certified. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
